Dr Laura McCartney is a Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in General Adult, Addiction and Sports Psychiatry. She completed her medical degree at Monash University and specialist psychiatry training at The Alfred Hospital, and holds an Advanced Certificate in Addiction Psychiatry.

Dr McCartney previously worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist at Barwon Health, where she led a multidisciplinary team providing intensive community-based mental health care. She has also worked extensively in rural, remote and First Nations communities across Far North Queensland and the Torres Strait, building expertise in delivering accessible, person-centred psychiatric care across diverse settings.

Alongside general adult psychiatry, Dr McCartney has a particular interest in the mental health of athletes and active individuals, supporting people to optimise wellbeing, performance and recovery across all levels of sport. She also has expertise in addiction and dual diagnosis, diagnostic complexity, medication rationalisation, and women’s mental health across the lifespan.

Her approach is collaborative and holistic, integrating biological, psychological, social and lifestyle factors to develop treatment plans aligned with each person’s values and goals.

Outside of work, Laura enjoys trail running, travel and the outdoors, and understands firsthand the important role that movement, identity and community can play in mental wellbeing.

Dr Emily Brennan is a Consultant Psychiatrist with expertise in perinatal, reproductive, eating disorder, and general adult mental health. She has a particular clinical focus on supporting individuals and families through fertility challenges, pregnancy loss, grief, and the emotional complexities of pregnancy and the postnatal period. She completed her medical degree at Monash University, followed by her internship at Bendigo Health.

Dr Brennan undertook specialist psychiatry training with North Western Mental Health, gaining broad experience across leading metropolitan services including Orygen Youth Health, Sunshine Hospital, The Royal Melbourne Hospital, and The Royal Children’s Hospital. During this period, she also completed a Master of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne. She undertook advanced training at the Professorial Unit at Albert Road Clinic, and completed subspecialty training in perinatal psychiatry across the Royal Women’s Hospital, Sunshine Perinatal Mental Health Service, and Northern Health Perinatal Mental Health Service.

Following attainment of Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), Dr Brennan has worked across community, perinatal, and specialist services, including leadership roles within public mental health. She has previously led community mental health teams and perinatal services, including at Northern Health and the Raphael Service at St John of God Berwick. She currently holds a public Consultant Psychiatrist appointment at Barwon Health, where she leads the multidisciplinary Eating Disorder Day Program.

Dr Brennan’s clinical practice is guided by the integration of biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors, with a strong emphasis on evidence-based, person-centred, and trauma-informed care. She has extensive experience supporting patients experiencing infertility, assisted reproductive treatment, miscarriage, stillbirth, termination for medical reasons, and perinatal grief, as well as those navigating anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, and identity changes during pregnancy and early parenthood. A key focus of her work is optimising mental health during pregnancy and the postnatal period, with careful consideration of medication use, psychological wellbeing, attachment, and family functioning.

Dr Brennan values the time, trust, and perspectives of each patient and family, and strives to create a safe, compassionate, and collaborative environment for care. She is currently providing services via Telehealth.
